Welcome to Nursel Central Asian Cuisine — a family-owned restaurant in the heart of San Carlos, created with love, tradition, and a deep passion for hospitality.
Founded by Nursel, originally from Kyrgyzstan, our restaurant is inspired by the warmth of Central Asian culture, where sharing food is more than a tradition — it is a way of caring for people. In our culture, hospitality is considered a gift, and every guest is welcomed like family.
Our menu brings together recipes passed down through generations across Central Asia and Eastern Europe. From handmade manty and flaky samsa to comforting soups and fire-grilled kebabs, every dish reflects authentic flavors, family traditions, and homemade quality.
As a mother of three, Nursel believes food should be made with the same care and attention she gives her own family. Quality, freshness, and comfort are at the heart of every meal served in our kitchen.

One of the few places in the Bay Area to serve the combo of Central Asian/Eastern European food. Menu is quite extensive, offering a number of carbtastic dishes. Of course, lots of meat as well, making for a hearty meal. Prices are reasonable for the large portion sizes that you get. Service is friendly and prompt. My group of six had the borscht, manty (dumplings), chicken stroganoff, ganfan, kurrdak and plov. Were blessed to have tons of leftovers.

Nursel Cafe is a hidden gem in San Carlos that never disappoints. We've been regulars here for quite some time, and the food has always been consistently delicious — which is no small feat in the restaurant business. Our go-to dishes are the beef in the clay pot, plov, and manti — each one full of fresh, rich flavors that truly transport you.
One of the things we appreciate most is the consistency. No matter when we visit, the taste and quality remain excellent. The staff are always welcoming and friendly, and over time, we've had the chance to chat with them about various updates to the cafe. Their recent remodeling brought a fresh, modern yet traditional Central Asian vibe to the space and clearly reflects the team's pride and investment in their craft.
The atmosphere is another standout — the soft, chill music in the background adds a calming touch, making it a perfect place to unwind over a great meal. Plus, the location is extremely convenient, just steps away from the CalTrain station, with plenty of parking available. If you're looking to explore authentic Russian or Central Asian cuisine, Nursel Cafe is a top-tier spot that I highly recommend. A true local favorite.

Found this place when I did a search for "stroganoff" which is really hard to find in the Bay Area. They make a killer chicken stroganoff which I've now gone there 6 times to get. . .absolutely delicious and perfect. On my first visit we had the vareniki and manty, which were great, the lagman and borscht were just okay. We didn't try the desserts because we were so full but would like to try the Cinderella dessert next time.

Romantic, ambience with low light and calming decor. Big room for parties in the back. This quaint menu has 5, yes FIVE hearty soups, of which the Borscht and the Solyanka (smoky flavor) are the best. The lamb soup is simple and pretty good with the red hot sauce. The lentil/carrot soup is also simple and the lemon makes it interesting. The Napoleon cake is lightly sweet and fluffy, perfect for sharing with someone, (or TWO someones!) after dinner, since it's a decent size.

Nursel Restaurant remains a favorite for me and my best friend. We visited on May 1, 2026- our fourth time visiting as we both are always craving Russian and Uzbek flavors.
The main drawback is a strong cleaning-product scent in the dining area upon entering and on the napkins, which is distracting for someone like myself who has a sensitive sense of smell.
We ordered spinach and cheese samsy, chicken stroganoff, and borscht. The samsy was flaky, fresh, and paired nicely with vinegar. The stroganoff was creamy and comforting, though the rice was a bit firmer than we'd like. The borscht was tangy and hot, just what we needed on this brisk evening. Overall, we love Nursel and will return, hoping for a subtler atmosphere and perhaps a softer rice texture.
